LEMERY BRANCH

Present-day Lemery was originally named Punta, a barrio under the municipality of Taal.  It was later renamed San Geronimo.  Finally, the barrio formally took on the name Lemery, in honor of Captain Roberto Lemery  a commanding officer of the local military garrison (precursor of the Spanish Guardia Civil), who endeared himself to the local community.  In 1907, Lemery was declared a municipality independent from Taal.

Much like other municipalities in the province of Batangas, Lemery’s primary source of income derives from “agricultural activities, including crop production, livestock and poultry, with 30 out of 46 barangays involved” in the venture.  As a coastal municipality with 13 barangays located along the shore, fishing activities also contribute significantly to the local economy.  (Source: Wikipedia)

Lemery shows no let-up in its progressive march to economic sustainability.  The town cemented its position as a growing commercial community with the opening of two shopping malls, the Xentro Mall-Lemery in February 2014 and in December 2017, the SM Center-Lemery.
