Formerly known as Don Mariano Marcos Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue covers a circuitous route starting from the Quezon Memorial Circle inside the Elliptical Road, passing through the areas of Philcoa, Tandang Sora, Balara, Batasan Hills and ending at Quirino Highway in Novaliches.  Commonwealth includes the section known as Fairview Avenue. 

Several landmark institutions are found along the stretch of Commonwealth Avenue led by the Central Temple of Iglesia Ni Cristo along with some government offices – the Sandiganbayan special court of justice, Commission on Audit and the Philippine Coconut Authority.   The St. Peter Parish Shrine is located in Commonwealth Avenue around Barangay Batasan Hills.  Completed in 1999, the church is a replica of the St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. 

Present-day Commonwealth Avenue has become a business hub in Diliman, Quezon City with the presence of the UP-Ayala Technopark hosting a growing community of multinational corporations.
